Welcome!
This is me, Paula, doing what I love best: baking.
I started baking 45+ years ago, at a very young age, in a very different world. There was no internet, and not a vast amount of good cookbooks. We baked mostly with treasured family recipes, which is part of what you'll find here. Then everything changed with the internet. I started my blog in 2012 at a time when I had a Cafe and was miserable running it. You can read more in the About This Blog page.
I adore blogging, love the community behind it, and the friends I've made, virtual and IRL.
What You'll Find Here
This blog is a collection of time-tested recipes that have earned a permanent spot in my kitchen. It's all about old-fashioned recipes that work. You'll find a mix of sweet and savory bakes, plus a few retro dishes for good measure.
My area of expertise is Latin, Italian and American baking, and sharing my heritage favorites is one of the reasons I started this blog in February 2012.
The recipes are designed for home bakers and occasional cooks who want reliable, approachable results. Most are simple, and when they’re not, they’re worth the effort.
- Every day bakes: muffins, quick breads, dump cakes, and bundt cakes.
- Vintage baking and desserts: creamy pies, cheesecake bars, fruit cobblers, and no-bake favorites.
- Retro savory dishes: old-school salads, casseroles, rolls, and comfort meals.
- Holiday classics: Thanksgiving pies, Christmas cookies, and special-occasion bakes.
- Tips, variations, and testing notes: so you get dependable results every time.
My inspiration
With Latin, Italian, Irish, and Spanish roots, plus a deep love for old-fashioned American recipes from my years living in the U.S., my cooking is a blend of heritage and nostalgia. This mix of cultures shapes the dishes I develop. Browse the vintage recipes index and you’ll see my story woven through the flavors.
I often turn to cookbooks and magazine clippings from forty years ago for inspiration, whether I'm recreating vintage flavors or adding a modern twist. There's something special about updating those time-tested recipes for today's kitchen.
Traveling is another incredible source of inspiration. I travel whenever I can and visit bakeries, try unique pastries and desserts, and come back with new energy, ideas and a renewed enthusiasm for sharing new recipes.

My background
- I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I moved a lot, and lived for two years in California when I was a teenager, back in the 80s. So you might say I'm also vintage, not only my recipes.
- Not counting a short stint at pastry school, I'm mostly self-taught, which means I made all the mistakes and now have tips and tricks to share.
- I am an avid baker, recipe developer, and amateur food photographer, among other things. Food-related things interest me immensely, and collecting cookbooks is one of them. I counted 400+ the last time and have many that are not in print anymore.
- I’ve been baking and cooking for decades, first for myself, then for family and friends, and now for the millions of readers who visit Vintage Kitchen Notes each year.
- I am a fellow from the 2018 Cochran Fellowship program in Restaurant Management (the USDA invited me to learn about ingredients and equipment, meet top chefs, and much more). Because of that, I am a reference for the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires in that area. This means that we put together events to support American products in Argentina or research ingredients we would like to have imported. It's a wonderful association.
